Introduction
The "new" church
at St. Mary of the Annunciation, dedicated on April 14 2002, was the result of a
significant investment of time, talent, and treasure by hundreds of
people. At the heart of their effort were a core set of values -- some
dictated by Church norms and others expressed by parishioners --
that the artists and architects felt obliged to honor. Besides practical
and esthetic considerations, there are theological and philosophical dimensions
behind the visible presentation one sees as a visitor. The best
understanding of these can be gained by undertaking a physical tour of the
facilities, accompanied by one of our trained guides who can explain the unseen
dimensions of the art and design at St. Mary of the Annunciation. To
arrange such a tour, call our offices at 847-223-0010 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
weekdays.
This electronic brochure
does not presume to replace a personal tour, which we highly recommend.
For those who have not yet visited our facilities, the brochure is an
introduction to a sacred space of which we are very proud. For others, who
have been there, it is perhaps a reminder of the many physical and spiritual
facets that surround one when present in that space.
Download instructions
The brochure is a relatively
large document (1.3MB) is an executable file that is only PC
(Windows)-compatible. Depending upon your internet connection, it will
take between 30 seconds and several minutes to "load". We
think you will agree that it is worth the wait. Click here
or on the title of this
page ("Art & Design Brochure") to initiate the load.
You may be prompted for
options during the process. One common prompt allows you to choose whether
you want to "open/run" the brochure from its current location, or whether
you want to "download/save" it to your computer. You can do either,
and we have no objection to your sharing the brochure with others or having your
own copy. If you do
not want to retain a "local" copy, or do not have 1.3MB of space you want to dedicate to
the brochure, then we suggest you choose the option to "open/run"
from current location. Another prompt that could appear will caution you that no
"Authenticode Signature" was found. There is not
such a code for this document, so we recommend you respond YES to this prompt
(to proceed anyway).
The brochure is designed for 800 x 600 screen
resolution.
There is a 'control bar' along the top of the brochure which gives you access to
various options, including print options. You can just click on the
right (or left) page to 'turn' to the next (or previous) page.
We hope you enjoy the
brochure! Please feel welcome to share your comments by writing to parish@stmaryfc.org
