1836 - 1860 - Fremont Center settlers attended services at St. John the Baptist in Johnsburg.

1864 - Frame church was erected on the west side of Fremont Center Road.

1865 - 1868 - Priests from St. Joseph in Chicago took turns traveling to Fremont Center to celebrate Mass monthly.


1869 - Fr. Goldschmidt, the pastor of St. Mary's Church at Buffalo Grove was appointed as first non-resident pastor.

"As an altar boy, it was my duty to be at church before Mass and to watch for the arrival of Father Goebels."

As soon as the young boy saw the horse and buggy of the priest approaching, he dashed for the bell and clanged it loudly to call the people to worship.
1870 - 1888 Fr. William Goebels drove his horse and buggy from Buffalo Grove periodically to celebrate Mass.

He was known as "a man of the soil" for his love of the farmers.

The Bell was cast in 1867 by J.G Stuckstede of St. Louis, MO.

On the front is a delicate relief image of the Madonna and Child.
